A NOTE FROM LAURI:
Build on logic skills in the classroom. I first worked with CLIP CLUE puzzles when I was volunteering to help with advanced math students in a 4th grade classroom. The kids had all tested out of their place value unit at school, and this was one of their supplementary activities. The kids LOVED these puzzles.
Combines tactile, visual, and critical thinking. Tactile activities, particularly those that require the use of both hands, engage the brain in different ways than a paper-and-pencil activities. The touch involved with CLIP CLUE puzzles provides a unique learning activity and builds critical thinking skills. Since the solutions are very visible, kids can easily see if they are off track, and can quickly re-read the puzzle clues to determine how they need to solve each puzzle.
Wide age appropriateness. These puzzles are appropriate for a wide range of ages and abilities, particularly since kids can help each other so easily by seeing the paper clips.
Additional ideas for using Clip Clues: CLIP CLUE puzzles are great for family math night, since they are very visual and tactile, and appropriate for a combination of ages of kids. Also a great idea for restaurants or other times you are waiting around or traveling in a car. Just copy off a page or two (since it is reproducible!), put in a baggie with some paper clips, and stick it in a purse or backpack. You don't need to worry about losing a copy of a page or a paper clip or two, and it is light and compact when you need to be mobile!
