| "DOMINION" 2009 Mensa Select Award Game Description:
You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams! You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees.
You want a dominion!
In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner.
But wait! It must be something in the air. Several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way.
To do this, you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn't be proud, but your grandparents would be delighted!

A NOTE FROM LAURI:
Complex game with great variety. With each game, you choose a combination of cards that will be part of that particular game. As a result, every game can be very different. The rule booklet includes several suggestions of card combinations to use for particular play that you desire. Some groups of cards tend to create more wealth, others create opportunity for more fantasy-like play, and so on. Even if you repeatedly use the same combination of cards, each game will be different because it depends upon what cards are chosen to be played each turn. With each turn, players pick cards from their own draw pile, pick what cards to play, and then discard all cards. So, there is a "luck" element based upon what cards are drawn for each hand, and the order that they are discarded because eventually the discarded pile becomes that players' draw pile.
High quality strategy game of German design. This game was designed and made in Germany. German game designers have earned a reputation for high quality strategic games. This game is no exception. DOMINION will appeal to many "gamers" because it combines strategy with fun, in a medieval context. The game will also appeal to people who like German games. It is a great game to play!
Particularly appealing to boys of all ages, and game players. Boys love this game. People who love strategy games love this game. DOMINION is a great way to let boys see the complexities of setting up an economy and town so that it is successful and creates wealth for a community. There is a fantasy element that is also appealing. |
