| "SIMPLE MACHINES" Hands-On Physics Kit by Engino:
Ultimate collection of the building blocks of mechanical physics!
SIMPLE MACHINES are considered the "building blocks" of all other mechanisms. This means that every other machine is basically a combination of the six simple machines: the lever, the wheel and axle, the pulley, the inclined plane, the screw, and the wedge.
Learn all about them and their history by entering this fascinating world of mechanical science! This set is the combination of the basic 8 kits in Engino's mechanical science series of the 6 SIMPLE MACHINES as well as two other mechanisms: the gear, and the linkage.
Build 59 working models, including cars, cranes and all different types of machines! Here are a few projects included:
LEVER CRANE: Make a fully working model of a lever crand and learn how it is used for lifting heavy objects without falling over to the other side. Compare your model with a real life one and learn about first class levers.
PARALLEL SCALE: This model will introduce you to the concept of linkages and help you understand how they work. Find out about parallel motion and its usage in different situations.
CAR THAT TURNS: Construct a model of a car with reverse turning wheels and find out in what ways the axle and the wheel connect for different purposes. Learn how the steering wheel is actually a lever.
CAR WITH CRANE: This unique model will help you understand the principle of inclined planes and how they help us lift heavy loads. Learn how the inclination of the plane affects the effort applied.
CRANE BRIDGE: Construct this model and try to lift some objects, finding out how a pulley can help you increase your strength. Experiment with different size pulleys and learn how the diameter affects speed and strength.
FISHING CRANE: Learn how the crank helps set this device into motion. Compare your model with a real life one and find out the capabilities of a crank when connected to a string for lifting heavy loads.
HAND DRILL: The industrial drill can be used for drilling or screwing bolts, and is usually powered by electrical energy. This model demonstrates the more traditional technique of hand driven mechanisms and how the speed can increase to a great extent by the use of gears.
REVOLVING CRANE: This fully functional crane has two types of movement. You can turn the crank on teh base which rotates a worm gear which rotates the crane arm. The crane hook can move up and down secured by a mechanism of a ratchet simulation.
A 68-page activity book is included with a selection of the best experiments from the series, and detailed explanations of the different technological principles applied. Kids will learn all about mechanics as the booklet contains hands-on activities, creative building challenges and interesting facts about a variety of subjects. It also includes exercises and quizzes, together with their solutions. A booklet with detailed building instructions for all 59 models is also included.
