Puzzle History: In ancient Macedonia, an oracle predicted that a man with wagon would become the next king. Midas entered the area with his wagon and was proclaimed king. Midas dedicated his wagon to Zeus and tied it to a pole with a large knot, with no ends in view. The knot was eventually moved to an ancient city called Gordium, where it was regarded as a curious puzzle. An oracle foretold that whoever loosened the Gordian Knot would reign over all of Asia. One man solved it - Alexander the Great! Legend states he cut the knot open with his sword.
