A NOTE FROM LAURI:
Fun math game for younger kids! A This is a fun game to practice addition skills, coin skills, and use basic strategy to try to win! Although this is marked for kids ages 6 and older, younger kids with solid addition skills in place for adding by 5s and 10s can play this game.
No worries about losing coins. This game has cards with pictures of coins, rather than the coins themselves. This makes it possible to play the game with much younger gifted children, where there are no worries about getting coins in mouths or losing them!
Great choice for "Math Game Night" with younger kids! Multiple ages can play this game together because it is generally fun for everyone to play money games.
How to play:
- Players each have a handful of coin cards of different values. They take turns placing the cards on the table in a row. If a player lays down a coin card and the row adds up to equal one dollar, the player gets to keep the cards and earn a point!
- However, if a player plays a card that causes the row to add up to over a dollar, the player "busts" and loses a point. So, players learn some basic strategy to avoid a "bust" and to not make it easy for other players to get to a dollar!
- "Save" cards can be played instead of a coin card, which is handy if all the cards in a hand will be a "bust". "Lucky Find" cards have values that are greater than just one coin, such as 30?.
- When all the cards are played, players count their points. The player who scores the most points wins the game!
Basic strategy skills can be practiced, too! Since kids build on the cards played by everyone, they can practice some very basic strategies to try to avoid "busts" (by saving "Save" cards and only using them when they need to), and to try to avoid making it easy for someone else to play a card that makes a dollar.
Compact game for easy storage. This game comes in a compact, sturdy box for easy storage in a classroom or home setting.
Summary. I like the multiple facets to this fun game - practicing coins, practicing addition, and practicing some basic game-playing strategies!
