A NOTE FROM LAURI:
Origami benefits both creative thinking and math skills. Origami provides opportunities to create fun and beautiful art. In addition, the geometric folding develops math skills such as visual-spatial, spatial reasoning, proportions, fractions, and more. Origami has great cross-benefits!
Origami has many, many benefits. I have read about the many benefits of origami from different sources. These benefits include the improvement in: spatial skills, geometry, attention skills, concentration, combining visual motor skills, problem solving, manual dexterity, math concepts, creativity, symmetry, proportions, fractions, and the list goes on and on.
Another way of thinking about it is that it is a very tactile way to approach geometry, where the figures you are making are 3D, and you learn about geometry in three dimensions.
In one research experiment, just a 40 minute session with origami was enough to show an improvement over students who did not do origami, when all those students then did some spatial reasoning tasks.
Try Origami, it's great! Origami is very beneficial to kids and adults. Try it, you'll like it!
