The HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER SET is both a Girder and Panel building set, and an engineering kit for kids!
Use the Girder and Panel basic construction parts to build the factory plant structure. Use the pump, tanks, valves, and piping to build the factory plant within the Girder and Panel structure. Add water for hours of hands-on engineering, and lots of fascinating fun in the process!
With the HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER SET you can follow the instructions to build a model of a paint pilot plant, a toothpaste factory, and a vinegar production facility.
With each structure you build, add the water and experiment like a real engineer! Discover how a siphon works! Balance the flow through the plant by adjusting the valves! Enjoy playing with moving water!
The HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER SET will inspire future chemical engineers!
Packaged in a white plastic tote with bright blue handles, the bottom half of the tote serves as the base of the set and has a footing inside. All the pieces fit inside the tote when disassembled for easy storage and transportation.
The starter set includes basic construction parts (62 beams, 58 columns, 10 short columns and 6 diagonal braces), tray and hand pump (the tray box, hand pump, and coil of tubing), pipe and tank connectors ("T" and elbow connectors, pipe supports, valves, spigot covers, large tank collars, and small tank collars), tank parts for a small round bottom tank and large cone bottom tank, AND specialty tank parts (siphon, float valve, tilt scale, and ball flow meter). Over 180 pieces.

PRODUCT SAFETY: This product has passed tests for lead and heavy metals, and conform to ASTM F963-03, the American Society for Testing and Materials standard for toy safety. It has also been tested to both the ASTMF 963-03 standard the the 16 CFR 1303 Standard and are in compliant with government regulations.

Introduce engineering concepts through the fun of play! Our website has both the HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER and HYDRODYNAMIC DELUXE SETs. Both of these products are great at introducing physics and chemical engineering concepts by building plants and factories, and experimenting with water flows. Playing with water is a great way to learn!
The manual is really excellent. The manual is large (10"x12"), easy to read, and has great color instructions for each step. The manual includes information about Girder and Panel sets, the parts included in this set, and extra parts that you can add. The manual has details about every piece of the hydrodynamic setup (the valves, covers, scales, meters, etc) and how they are used, and their purpose. The manual concludes with a "Did You Know?" section with interesting facts about water, valves, chemical factories, and chemical engineers.
The manual includes instructions for many projects to build. There are examples of factories to build with this HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER SET (a toothpaste factory, paint pilot plant, and vinegar facility). There is an example of how you progressively build the vinegar production facility.
Parts are scaled to the common HO scale (1/87). This means that the many, many HO accessories available, such as cars, trucks, trees, and trains, can be added to your factory. If you build a factory, and you have HO cars and/or trains, wouldn't that be a fun place to play?
Girder and Panel building sets are fantastic building sets. The HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER and HYDRODYNAMIC DELUXE sets use Girder and Panel building parts for the structure of the factories. Consider this set for a cool Science Fair project. The manual includes example questions for you to investigate for your own interest, or for a great science fair project. An example of a question is, "What filter is best for cleaning water?" In addition, the manual includes an example of an engineering schematic drawing, so if you want to do something similar for a science fair project you have an example to follow. If your child loves building and engineering, s/he may have a great idea of their own how this set can be used for a science fair project!
Choose the set that best fits your budget. Both the HYDRODYNAMIC STARTER and DELUXE SETs are great. The primary differences are the type of pump that is included (the STARTER SET has a hand pump and the DELUXE SET has an electric pump), and the number of Girder and Panel parts (the DELUXE set has more), and the engineering parts (the DELUXE set includes more connectors, and more specialty tank parts). The projects in the manual are completely different.
