Bright Kids World
Empowering Your Bright and Gifted Children

Welcome to Bright Kids World!

One spring day I woke up early and as I walked outside the fragrance of spring flowers filled the air. Later that day, as I was driving my kids to school I had this “Aha! Moment” and I came to the realization that bright and gifted children are much like a bouquet of flowers. While many of the flowers in their bouquet are brilliantly colored and especially fragrant, it is unusual for all of the flowers to be this way. It is so easy to overlook the pastels within the bouquet because we are so busy focusing on the brilliance. While we race to try to fulfill the needs of the brilliance, we also need to nurture the pastels, and recognize that our child is made up of their entire bouquet of flowers.

If you are reading this, we are hoping that it is because you have a bright and gifted child that you want to empower. You have come to the right place. Here, we want to find a way to help each other keep our bouquet of flowers beautiful, fresh, and healthy, and help them find their way to a happy and fulfilled life. We believe that through collaboration and innovation, we can help each other!

Who are we?:

My name is Lauri Robins and I started this Bright Kids World website because I wanted (in the words of Sarah in “Sarah, Plain & Tall”), TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

I have a rural background. With both parents born and raised in very small farming communities in South Dakota, I grew up in Rapid City, SD, a town of about 40,000 at the time. I lived through a devastating flood in 1972 where I learned very assuredly that people need to help each other to survive and to live fruitful lives.

I was a very unusual girl, because I absolutely loved math. After graduating from Iowa State University with a Computer Science degree, I headed off to a high tech management career with IBM, living in Minnesota, Connecticut, New York, California, and finally in Colorado. I worked with really great people who were both smart and fun.

I married one of the smartest men I’ve ever met. And he’s fun, too! We have two kids, who are pretty smart themselves. And boy were we in trouble with our kids…we had a hard time keeping up with them! We have had peaks and valleys as we learned about our kids, our schools, and about ourselves in the process. All along, I kept thinking, surely there could be better way to support people (families, schools, everyone) who have the fun and challenge of helping gifted kids as they grow and mature.

Bright Kids World has come a long way in the two years we have been in existence, and we have big plans. TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. To be helpful. To be innovative. We are NOT just a store. Watch us, support us, and you will see!
